C. C. Kemble

C. C. Kemble (born 1831) was a prominent architect in West Virginia during the mid-to-late 19th century.
==Biography==
Charles C. Kemble was born in New York around 1831, but little is known about his early life. By 1868, he was working for Joseph W. Kerr in Pittsburgh.〔''Pennsylvania State Reports''. Vol. 70. 1873.〕 In 1870, when he completed his first West Virginia building, he was practicing in Philadelphia.〔("Dedication of Fourth St. Methodist Church, 1870" ). ''http://www.ohiocountylibrary.org/''. n.d. Web.〕 But, by the time of that year's census, he was living in Wheeling with his wife and two children〔1870 Census of West Virginia〕 Around 1879 he had entered into a partnership with an A. Peebles, as Kemble & Peebles. Together, they designed the state capitol of 1880-85.
Kemble had apparently left West Virginia by 1880; though he continued to design buildings in the state for several years. By 1884 he was back in Pittsburgh, and in Chicago by 1885.〔''Sanitary Engineer'' 20 Nov. 1884: 580.〕〔''Inland Architect and Builder'' April 1885: 40.〕
